In Every Moment We Are Still Alive

IEMWASA is the debut novel by Swedish poet Tom Malmquist, a largely autobiographical account of his experience raising his daughter after the death of his wife. I was approached by Natalie Chen from Hodder & Stoughton to create a tactile cover for this book, based on a pivotal scene where his daughter stands under the falling leaves of a cherry tree.

Due to Tom's controlled and poignant prose, we chose to honor his tone with a minimal, elegant approach. Light was used to cast soft shadows from the dimensional typography, which stands strong and tall in the midst of delicate falling foliage.
